There are some things you’ve always wanted to try.
For me, golf was one of them.
It always looked like something I’d enjoy, but life got busy. Between work, raising kids, and everything else life throws your way, it stayed on the list of things I’d do “someday.”
Then my husband started getting into golf.
One day he looked at me and said,
“Come play with me.”
I couldn’t say no.
Not because I knew anything about golf…
But because I loved the idea of finding something we could enjoy together.
And honestly?
I’m so glad I said yes.
The biggest surprise wasn’t that I enjoyed it.
The biggest surprise was that…
I’m actually pretty good at it!
I’m still learning, of course. There are plenty of swings that remind me I have a lot to work on, but every time I play, I learn something new.
More importantly…
I have fun.
A Hobby We Can Share
As adults, it’s easy to get caught up in responsibilities.
Work.
Laundry.
Kids.
Appointments.
Before you know it, you’re spending all your time managing life instead of actually enjoying it together.
Golf has become our escape.
A couple of hours where we’re outside, laughing at bad shots, celebrating the good ones, encouraging each other, and simply spending time together.
That might be my favorite part.
It’s become something that’s ours.
Golf Is Sneakily a Workout
I also owe an apology to everyone who told me golf was exercise.
You were right.
My lower back is sore.
The backs of my thighs are sore.
My upper back near my shoulders is sore.
Even my bat wings are sore.
Apparently, repeatedly swinging a golf club, rotating your core, bending down, carrying clubs, and walking around a course uses muscles I completely forgot existed.
The soreness is proof that my body is working.
And unlike workouts I’ve forced myself through in the past…
This one never felt like a chore.
This Is What Taking My Life Back Looks Like
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned during this health journey is that being healthy isn’t just about eating differently or losing weight.
It’s about saying yes to life.
Yes to learning something new.
Yes to spending quality time with the people you love.
Yes to moving your body in ways that bring you joy.
Yes to hobbies you’ve always wanted to try.
This journey is helping me lower my LDL cholesterol.
It’s helping me understand my hormones.
It’s helping me become stronger.
But it’s also helping me build a life that feels fuller.
A life where I don’t wait for “someday.”
A life where I say yes when my husband asks if I want to go golfing.
Because sometimes the healthiest decision you can make isn’t found in a gym or on your dinner plate.
Sometimes…
It’s simply saying,
“Sure… let’s go.”
